Back to School Round Up 2014
Its the first week of August, and I am in full-back-to-school- swing here at Blissful Roots. Be sure to visit all week long for all the back to school tips and ideas youll need to make the beginning of this year extra special. My boys love school, but they get the first day jitters every year, so we do what we can to make the first day of school a bit more exciting and anticipated.
I know I say this often, but Im constantly amazed at all the talent thats so readily available out there in blogland. I had intended to share just a few ideas for todays round up, but wound up with 20! I couldnt stop! So, here are 20 of my favorite back to school ideas that have inspired me to get going on some great back to school projects. I hope theyll do the same for you!

I know when I taught making my room warm and inviting for back to school night was always a lot of fun, definitely some work, but totally worth it when my little first graders walked in the room and had happy, excited looks on their faces! The same goes for being a mom. I dont have a classroom any more, but I can make our home a fun and exciting place for that oh-so-important first day of school!

Arbor Day Field Trip Coming Up!
Arbor Day Field Trip Coming Up!
This Thursday we have a small field trip out to Vernon for Arbor Day. Students will rotate through various stations about trees, plants, wildlife, soil, and water. They will also each be given a small tree to take home and plant.
With this field trip, we have four parent chaperones going along. Due to the large class sizes we thought this would be helpful.
Students will ALL be eating sack lunches from the school! This is not an option so students do not need to bring along a lunch. They also do not need to bring any digital devices as we are only going out to Vernon. Students may bring along a hat and sunglasses if they want.
That being said, I must also tell you I will not be going along with the students on this field trip. I will be attending training for my new position for next year as an K-12 Instructional Coach. I love this field trip and am sad to be missing, but this training is something I cannot miss. I have all faith in my sub, Mrs. Olafson, and that things will go well as she has subbed in my room various times and knows the students. She knows what is going on and about the field trip.
So briefly, Thursday is a field trip to Vernon. Students will leave Crestwood Elementary around 9:30-9:40 and return about 2:00. Parent chaperones should meet us at the Nature Center by 9:45 and bring their own lunch as well.
Next Thursday, May 5th, is our big field trip to Lark Toys and the Eagle Center. More information about that field trip will be coming home soon.

Neat little tool. Yourgnome allow users to backup all things relative to Gnome on your Linux Machine. Packs everything into a tar.gz into your Home folder. Also includes the tools to extract the tar.gz file so you can restore your Gnome Desktop to a your previous saved state. Ive used it and it works. I used the non GUI version when it first came out. Easy to use. Kudos to Abu Yusuf for taking the time to make it. There are 2 versions. A non GUI version that just runs in terminal. And a 2nd edition that is a GUI Version for people that just want to point and click. These are just some of the things Yourgnome will back up.
1- all your themes.
2- background you use settings.
4- gnome-panel settings.
5- bluetooth-manager settings.
6- evolution settings.
7- file-roller settings.
8- gnome-screensaver settings.
9- gnome-session settings.
10- gnome-terminal settings.
11- gnome-volume-control settings.
12- metacity & compiz settings.
13- update-manager & notifier settings.
14- totem settings.
15- network configuration set by Gnome.
16- screenlets
Before you start wondering if this works for KDE or XFCE. Sorry it is for a Gnome Desktop Backup only. Here is a example of the non GUI version when I ran it in Terminal. First I made a folder on my Desktop called "gbackup". Then I cd to my Desktop by typing into terminal. "cd Desktop" (without the quote marks please.)Then after my terminal looks like it does below. I just continue with the below steps.

2- go to your terminal, type sh yourgnome.sh
3- choose:
1 -> Backup your gnome
2 -> Restore a backup
4- follow the on-screen instructions, its easy !
