Asacub A New Android Malware With Multiform Threat
Asacub A New Android Malware With Multiform Threat

Asacub is a new Android threat that has been used by bad actors to infect thousands of users in Russia in a recent SMS spam campaign.
According to the experts from Kaspersky Lab, the Trojan-Banker.AndroidOS.Asacub was first detected as a new spyware Trojan. The experts noticed that one of the C&C servers used by the Asacub Android malware (chugumshimusona[.]com) was also used by the Windows Trojan CoreBot that appeared in the wild in August 2015. In September, CoreBot was said to have
In September, the CoreBot Trojan was improved to work as a banking Trojan, and the Asacub threat evolved in the same way.
The researchers observed and intense activity of the malware that lasted an entire week from Dec. 28, 2015 to Jan. 4, 2016. The SMS spam campaign infected more than 6,500 unique users in Russia.
A blog post published on Securelist states:
During the New Year holidays, the new modification was actively distributed in Russia via SMS spam. In just one week, from December 28, 2015 to January 4, 2016, we recorded attempts to infect over 6,500 uniqueusers.

The experts from Kaspersky highlighted that the Android malware has had at least three major modifications in a few months, the crooks used it as spyware and banking Trojan.
The first Asacub variant spotted in June 2015 was used to steal all incoming SMS messages from infected devices and implemented classic data stealer features and RAT functionalities.
A month later, in July, a second Asacub variant appeared in the wild, the crooks used it to target a number of European banks. The malware also implemented a reverse shell to allow operators to execute commands on the device and see the outputs.
Another variant uncovered in September 2015 was more oriented to banking trojan and included a series of phishing screens with bank logos, including a major Russian bank, used to steal bank card data.
The last Asacub variant discovered late in 2015 was able carry out the following new commands:
- GPS_track_current get the devices coordinates and send them to the attacker;
- camera_shot take a snapshot with the devices camera;
- network_protocol in those modifications we know of, receiving this command doesnt produce any results, but there could be plans to use it in the future to change the protocol used by the malware to interact with the C&C server.
The experts noticed that this variant does not include any phishing screens, but the analysis of the source code of the malware revealed the presence of the code used to target the banks.

B612 Selfie with the heart
B612 Selfie with the heart

1. Embroidery Hoop. I used a smallish one, but go crazy, use whatever size you want. I was actually tempted to use the stupid hula hoop. But I restrained myself.
2. As strip of pretty fabric. I think it was about 60-ish cm long and about 15cm wide.... I think. Wrap the fabric around the hoop, making sure you cover all of it.
3. Small pieces of ribbon. Long enough to tie into bows. Tie the fabric onto the hoop with the ribbon at even intervals. No sewing here, dude.
4. Felt brooches. Now, I have a stash of brooches i made, so I used those- just pinned them on! You could also use any pretty brooches and pins you have, or you could make some felt flowers specifically for the wreath. You could stick other cute things on there too.. like Christmas baubles, little reindeers, tiny shrunken heads..... Whatever gets you in the Christmas mood.
And there it is. The laziest, easiest, cutest wreath you ever did see!

Do you make you own Christmas Decorations?

Baguette with Prawn and Cream Cheese Bakers Delight giveaway!
Baguette with Prawn and Cream Cheese Bakers Delight giveaway!

I mean, you can imagine how satisfying it must be to bite into your homemade sandwich right? (Better yet, grow the vegetables and butcher your own meat to make that sandwich!)
But so far in my kitchen I have been shying away from yeast. Its just one area that I have a really bad feeling about. So I am just going to continue buying my bread until I overcome this fear of yeast...and of course, until I have time to do such thing.

I was told that all of the breads from this new range are crafted by hand, allowed to rest for 20 hours and then baked on stone for a crusty finish. Sounds good to me!

Straight away, I filled the ciabatta with whatever ingredients I had in my fridge and toasted it in the oven.

I noticed the baguette was bigger and wider than the baguettes I normally see at the markets. So I had an idea...actually I had two. So I only used half of the baguette for this...

Of course, the bread centre didnt go to waste, they were stuffed back as fillings ;)

I didnt have anyone to share these delicious baguettes with so I ate them all myself (dont judge me!) They were garlicky, creamy but not overly so - just the way I like them. They may look a bit fancy but they are in fact quite simple. But I do recommend that you share these over a meal with friends. Bring this over to their place for your next gathering. Just because food tastes better when shared...especially the entertaining season is now upon us with the longer daylights!
Oh, and dont forget to scroll to the bottom of the post to find how how you can win the vouchers! :D

French Baguette with Prawn and Cream Cheese
Adapted from Masa cookbook
- 1/2 Bakers Delight French Baguette
- 100g cream cheese
- 1 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp mayonnaise
- ~8 prawns (fresh uncooked only!)
- drizzle of white wine
- 4-5 stalks of asparagus (chopped to around 3cm)
- 4-5 cloves of garlic (or less if you dont like garlic), chopped finely
- salt and pepper to taste
2. Peel the prawns and devein.
3. Add a bit of oil in a pan and add the garlic. Just before it turns brown, add the raw prawns.
4. When the prawns have turned red, add a drizzle of white wine (optional).

8. Once the prawn and asparagus have cooled down (do not use when still hot/warm) add them to the cream cheese mixture and combine. Taste as you go along and add salt and pepper to taste.

10. Wrap the filled baguette with plastic wrap/cling film tightly and store in the fridge for a few hours until the fillings have set properly.
11. To serve, eat the sliced baguette at room temperature. Do not bake as the fillings inside will melt!

Now, for your chance to win 1 of 5 $5 vouchers to be used in any Bakers Delight store in Australia...
All you have to do is leave a comment on this post! :)
Oh and why not tell me what your best match is with your favourite bread? This would be one of your recipes, your favourite cheese and wine or even a gourmet sandwich!
- The 5 winners will be chosen at random.
- This giveaway is only open to Australian residents only.
- If you do not have a blogger account, just select Name/URL next to Comment as and remember to leave your e-mail addresss so I can contact you for your mailing address.

asian salad with peanut dressing
asian salad with peanut dressing
About time for a break from desserts! When I was in Atlanta a few weeks ago I went to Bacon Fest and ate bacon until I felt sick. That night, all I wanted for dinner was a light, fresh salad. So this is my take on the salad I had with red, green and napa cabbage, basil, cilantro, green and red onion with a spicy peanut dressing. This salad came with hanger steak on it but I pushed that to the side after all the bacon I had eaten that day.
Red, Green & Napa Cabbage Salad with Peanut Dressing
for the salad:
1/2 small head of napa cabbage
1 small head of red cabbage
1 small head of green cabbage
1 red onion, diced
3 green onions, diced
bunch of cilantro
bunch of basil
spicy peanut dressing:
1/2 c. peanut butter
2 tbsp soy sauce
2 tbsp lime juice
1 clove garlic, minced
2 tbsp rice wine vinegar
1/8 c. to 1/4 c. water
For the dressing, combine all of the ingredients in a small saucepan and stir on low heat until the peanut butter melts. Wait for the dressing to cool and pour over salad immediately before serving.

Away With Rum Theodore Bikel
Away With Rum Theodore Bikel
Guest poem sent in by Vivian
(Poem #1916) Away With Rum We're coming we're coming. Our brave little band On the right side of temperance we now take our stand. We don't use tobacco because we do think That the people who do so are likely to drink. [Chorus] Away, away, with rum, by gum, With rum, by gum, with rum, by gum, Away, away, with rum, by gum, The song of the Salvation Army. We never eat cookies because they have yeast And one little bite makes a man like a beast. Oh, can you imagine a sadder disgrace, Than a man in the gutter with crumbs in his face? [Chorus] We never eat fruitcake because it has rum, And one little slice puts a man on the bum. Oh, can you imagine a sorrier sight, Than a man eating fruitcake until he gets tight? [Chorus] |
Franklin P. Adams' "Prohibition" inevitably brought this to mind. Here, the song tweaks the temperance movement (there are versions with "Temperance Union" rather than "Salvation Army") for going to intemperate extremes, but the underlying message is that anything that seems like a pretty good idea in the first place (in the specific case, immoderate consumption of alcohol can lead to disastrous results) when taken to its logical extremes can be absurd and even violent. When I first learned this song, I understood the words to the chorus as "Away, away with rum, buy gum" (rather than "by gum"), possible because we sang the final chorus as: Away, away with gum, buy rum With gum, buy rum, with gum, buy rum, Away, away with gum, buy rum, The salvation song of the army." Which brings me to the next point: Like many folk songs, this is a kind of oral poetry that gives license to its "users" to invent verses and variations of their own. A collection of these - some of them quite funny - can be seen at http://www.whitetreeaz.com/awayrum.htm. Auditing data with the Acegi plugin and Grails upgrade pain
Auditing data with the Acegi plugin and Grails upgrade pain
Im in the middle of trying to upgrade our app (again). Were running on Grails 1.1 now and Im attempting to get us to 1.1.1 and from there to 1.2-M1. As Marc Palmer points out the more people using it the more likely it is that 1.2 final will be rock solid.
The problem thats biting us right now is GRAILS-4453 (or, more accurately, HHH-2763). Were using Grails Hibernate events support to track the user that created and last updated assets in our system. This isnt just us being anal, the site editors frequently search the data using those criteria so its an essential feature.
In Grails 1.1 this is simplicity itself. The following code goes in the domain class and thats all there is to it:
User createdBy
User updatedBy
def authenticateService
def beforeInsert = {
createdBy = authenticateService.userDomain()
}
def beforeUpdate = {
updatedBy = authenticateService.userDomain()
}
Yes, it is quite exciting that youre able to inject a service into a domain class instance. GORM only maps explicitly typed properties to the database so anything declared using def
is effectively transient.
Unfortunately Grails 1.1.1 includes a newer version of Hibernate that introduces a particularly horrible problem. When saving any update to our domain object now were faced with the error: collection [User.authorities] was not processed by flush()
. The problem appears to be that the User
instance attached to createdBy
cannot be flushed when the beforeUpdate
closure executes because it has a lazy-loaded collection of authorities. Even declaring the authorities collection as lazy: false
doesnt help as the relationship is a bi-directional many-to-many - each Authority
also has a collection of all the User
s who have been granted that role. Given that for the purposes of displaying data to the audience of our site this audit data doesnt matter a damn I really dont want to be eager fetching it. Also, given the nature of the User-Authority relationship, casual eager fetching could result in rather a lot of data being loaded in to memory (the User
, his roles, all the other users with that role, all their roles...)
Our options seem to be:
- Explicitly eager fetch the
User
data in places where the owning object will get updated. Since the domain class in question is the root of a heirarchy of 13 sub-classes (things this project has taught me #63: never do this) and varieties get updated by a service or two, at least one controller and one Quartz and several hundred Selenium test fixtures, its going to be a massive PITA and just as bad to remove if/when HHH-2763 ever gets fixed. - Break referential integrity and store username or id rather than an actual domain object relationship. This feels horribly wrong and is likely to cause problems down the line.
- Store the created/updated information as a domain object of its own. This would make the query to find data by who created or updated it more complex (although not impossibly so) and might actually be prone to the same original bug
I dont know if anyone might have come across this problem and has some kind of workaround (preferably one that isnt an evil hack). Id really appreciate any pointers.
Update: This is fixed in Grails 1.2-M2
