Baby Diary in Patchwork Tsushin
Baby Diary in Patchwork Tsushin

I have tons of things I forgot to blog about! I finally got around to taking some pictures, so here we go! This plastic bag dispenser above was made for Cotton Time magazine, No.110, (Japanese magazine). I remember having lots of fun paper-piecing those small bag blocks although at the time, I was hugely pregnant.

Cotton Time has been around since I was little, so it was really cool to see my name in it. Thanks to the editor who kindly invited me to contribute for the patchwork section.

You can buy Cotton Time magazines at superbuzzy here :)
+ + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + +

Next up is this great book compiled by the lovely Tricia Waddell. I am honored that several of my past projects for Stitch are featured in it including these:

This is such a nice book with a collection of all sorts of different bags. I definitely have to make the bag on the cover made by Malka. Its amazing, isnt it?

Thanks to friends who tagged me on Instagram to let me know about my project being featured in this issue of Mollie Makes, a really inspirational magazine published in England.

It is the apron I made for my book. Pretty cool to see it in this mag!
+ + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + +

Lastly, this is the newest issue of Patchwork Tsushin, Japanese magazine. I dont have any project in it but...

In the preview section on the last page of the mag, between super famous stars in Japanese craft world is a little name that may look familiar to you. The line translates.. "ayumis baby diary". That would be..... me!! I will be sharing my baby diary in this awesome magazine along with some sewing projects for babies for one year starting the issue coming out next month. This idea was brought up by the amazing editor of Patchwork Tsushin way before Honoka was born. I have been into baby sewing almost exclusively, so it didnt take me a moment to make a decision, though I admit I was a bit intimidated!

Ok, I thought I was going to do short blogposts lol. Well...next time!!
Thanks for putting up with me!

Baby Colette has ARRIVED!!!!
Baby Colette has ARRIVED!!!!
Happiness and JOY!!!? Our Baby Girl Colette has been born!
She arrived in the wee hours of January 12th, 2011. A perfect 7lbs 9oz. she weighed and a lovely 19 1/4" long. A fast and amazing labor and delivery brought her into the world as a snow storm roared and swirled outside the hospital.
We are in awe and deeply in love with this little beauty of a Baby Girl.
All bundled up as she just came home from the hospital. Fresh white snow on the ground with sunshine all around us carried us home as a family of four. :-)

BIG Sister, Jolie couldnt be prouder...

Welcome to the world Baby Colette!

Baby Feeding Math
Baby Feeding Math
We have a new baby in the house and with her arrival came various logical riddles that appear very simple, yet the solutions are not trivial although can mean quiet, health and happiness of the whole household.
What time did I last feed her?
What breast did I last feed her from?
How much did she drink?
While I have been trying to remember the last feeding times, I have not always been able to keep track of the "last breast." In many cases you can feel the pressure of the milk, however not always - just recollect the sleepless zombie state new parents find themselves in. I mentioned this problem in my newsletter and many of you wrote suggesting placing a sticker on a bra, writing L or R on a notepad, moving a ring from one hand to another. Someone proposed this as a great idea for a startup.
Today another creative solution arrived by mail from the Similac baby formula company. A present or an advertising trick, depending on how you look at it. An elegant hand bracelet:

Instructions advise to put the bracelet on the hand corresponding to the side of the last feeding (when breastfeeding) and slide the heart-shaped window to the mark corresponding to the time of the last feeding. Two riddles are solved with one bracelet! Very neat - I am already using it.
Another puzzling and usually annoying question that is frequently asked by nurses, doctors or grandmothers is: "How much milk does your baby consume in one feeding?" When baby is on a formula - it is easy to answer. When breastfeeding - the only way to answer this would be to pump, measure, then feed. Too much work just to satisfy the curiosity. Feeding time may give a clue to the answer, but as experience shows milk sucking speed depends on the babys age, temper and hunger state. What other optios are there? You may weigh the baby before and after the feeding or weigh the mom, but the 100-200mg consumed will likely get lost in the noise of the weighting scale or a burp.
Undoubtedly various creative solutions to these questions are in the works. Have your own ideas - rush to patent it; use someone elses idea - share it with us.

Baby Boy Number Four A Dollar Store Haunted Village
Baby Boy Number Four A Dollar Store Haunted Village
Well, hes here, hes still nameless, and every other boy (including my husband) in our house has the stomach flu. Its been quite the past few days! But this little guy has been nothing but sweetness! Sure Ive lost some restful sleeping hours, but Im just relishing every waking minute I have with him for now, because I know this tiny stage of life will be gone in the blink of an eye.
Ill be learning how to blend blogging life with a newborn over these next few weeks, so posts may be few and far between, or you may see a few reposts. But I really do love blogging. It gives me a creative out/distraction when I get bombarded with everyday life, so I wont disappear completely.
In addition to this precious little boy, I have a picture of what I was working on when my water broke Friday evening. Now every year when I pull this out, Ill be reminded of baby boy number four.
Desiree from The 36th Avenue shared this idea awhile back, and Ive been wanting to try it ever since! This year I finally got around to stocking up on dollar store houses for my haunted village.

I found some actual haunted houses at Dollar Tree several weeks ago, but now is the time to snag all the Christmas village items that are popping up on the shelves. They look quite wintry, but when you add a coat of black paint, some glitter, and embellishments, youve got your self a perfectly spooky town!
Ill be seeing you around when I can. You can follow me on Instagram from more frequent updates/photos of this new little guy.
Thanks so much for stopping by! I hope you found a little something worth your time.
Linking up to these parties & Savvy Southern Style.

baby lambs
baby lambs

This weather (among other things) has been terrible for my sense of adventure. Sometimes its so hard to get out of the house and explore. And after this trip- my daughters not feeling well. But yesterday my friend Jessie asked if me and little Bel wanted to go see some freshly born baby lambs... and they were precious. And it was so worth venturing in the cold.
I love farm life, and sometimes I kind of crave the simplicity of it. Its got me thinking about more possible adventures to come... (Spring Hurry!)
